[16th century book]. HABERMANN (Johann).... - Lot 410 - Normandy Auction
[16th century book]. HABERMANN (Johann). Precationes in singulos septimanae dies. Argentorati, apud B. Iobinu [m], 1582. In-12, [26] f., 173 p., [1] f. white, fig., brown calf of the period, back with 4 nerves and dumb, gilt fleurons, dishes bordered by a double cold fillet and a gilt fillet, with central gilt medallion, gilt edges (split sup. jaws, formerly restored caps, one guard renewed, rubbing; ordinary browning). Extremely rare edition of this edifying work by the German Lutheran theologian J. Habermann (1516-1590). It is probably the second edition from Strasbourg (after the original published in Wittenberg in 1576); it reproduces the first edition given in Strasbourg by the same Bernard Jobin in 1579 (according to USTC, and VD16, H 24). This edition is not included in the large online union catalogues (Worldcat, USTC), and we have not located any copy of it, not even at the BNU in Strasbourg. Signatures : esfa] 12, [gamma] 6, [gamma] 8, A-G 12, H 4. The text is printed in red and black. The fully woodcut illustration includes a decorative frame on the title page, 12 thumbnails illustrating the calendar at the beginning of the volume, 2 circular figures for the calculation of moving feasts, one of which is on double page. Set copy.
