CHURCHILL (Winston). Autograph letter signed, to "Mr. Coats", January 9, 1909. One page in-8, on "Board of Trade, Whitehall Gardens" letterhead; autograph envelope also signed. Response to a request for appointment as Controller of Patents. "I was unable to answer your letter of Dec. 15th sooner, as the appointment to the Comptrollership of Patents, on while the possibility of my offering a post in the Patent to Mr. Buchnill defended, has not been decided upon [...]. " At that time, Winston Churchill was Minister of Commerce; he distinguished himself by proposing several bills in favour of workers and the unemployed.
