MERIMEE
MÉRIMÉE (Prosper). Autograph letter signed, [to his friend the Spanish poet and historian Serafin Calderon-Estebañez]. S.l., May 25, 1849; 2 pages in-8. Friendly letter from the novelist, which ends on a humorous note relating to bullfighting. Mérimée recommends to her correspondent two close friends, "Mr. Doctor Roulin and Mr. Ampère, my colleague at the Academy, who are going to do some shopping in Andalusia. Please give them good advice for their itinerary and letters for Granada & Málaga. I have at your disposal con toda franqueza hoping that you will do the same for me. Please tell my friends your opinion about the tiger and the bull that you had the good fortune to see fighting each other. I defy official relations and I fear that Andalusian patriotism has been signalled by the slander of the African animal...".
