Monet
Claude MONET (1840-1926). Autograph letter signed, to [Gustave Geffroy]. Giverny, by Vernon, Eure, May 11, 1891. 2 pages in-8; autograph envelope. Monet asks his friend, the art critic Gustave Geffroy (1855-1926), to allow Blanche Hoschedé access to the painting salon presented under the auspices of the Société nationale des Beaux-Arts, at the Champ de Mars, Paris. [] Mademoiselle Blanche Hoschedé, obliged to come to Paris after tomorrow, May 13, would like to take advantage of her stay to go to the Champ de Mars. I promise to take her there and will ask you to obtain a way in [] Blanche Hoschedé (1865-1947) was the daughter of Alice Hoschedé, Claude Monet's second wife. She was one of the painter's models, then became his assistant and his only pupil. Her style closely resembles the work of the master. In 1897 she married one of his sons, Jean Monet. She played an important role in the maintenance and preservation of the garden of Giverny. She regularly exhibited her own works in Rouen, from 1903 onwards.
