Second edition, increased by 20 plates compared to the first published in 1648, of this treatise composed by the Jesuit Georges Fournier (Caen, 1595 - La Flèche, 1652), geographer, professor of mathematics, and chaplain of the Navy. His Hydrography published in 1643 is the first French maritime encyclopedia. Captioned diagrams formerly drawn in ink on the lower cover.
