[Illustrated Bible. French. 1700]. HISTOIRE du Vieux et du Nouveau Testament enrichie de plus de quatre cens figures en Taille douce. A Antwerp, chez Pierre Mortier, 1700. Two volumes in-folio, contemporary brown calf, ribbed spine (worn bindings with gaps in cover; in vol. 1, several plates have tears in the margins and repaired, of which 5 touching the composition; a few other defects of which the false-title of t.1 torn and pasted down; some soiling). Splendid edition whose text was composed by David Martin (1639-1721), a Protestant pastor originally from Languedoc and settled in Utrecht. It is distinguished by its remarkable copper-engraved illustration which consists of 214 plates offering nearly 400 figures, 5 double maps hors-texte, 2 frontispieces, 1 repeated vignette to the titles, 3 vignettes at the head of the book, and a few culs-de-lampe.
