[Gastronomy]. DU RONDEAU (Jean-Baptiste).... - Lot 119 - Normandy Auction
[Gastronomy]. DU RONDEAU (Jean-Baptiste). Memoir on the pernicious effects of mussels S.l., s.n. [Brussels, 1777]. In-4, [1] f., p.315-322, woodcut headband, stapled, modern mute cover (very pale margins). Rare offprint of the Mémoires de l'Académie de Bruxelles. J.-B. Du Rondeau, physician to Duke Charles of Lorraine, gives here a supplement to a memoir written by his colleague Jean-Baptiste de Beunie and published in the same series. He confirms here "the danger that one runs, when one has the imprudence to eat raw mussels during the months of April and September", and reports his own medical-culinary experiments aiming at making the mollusc edible without risk. (Dezeimeris II, 164). Provenance: "Collection Deuzel, livres et gravures sur la gastronomie" (stamp on an attached note).
