Aphorisms of Hippocrates, translated on the Greek text, according to the collation of the manuscripts of the Imperial Library, with a dissertation on these manuscripts, and the variants. by M. de Mercy In Paris, by Crochard, 1811. In-16, [2] f., CXXIV-352 p., [2] f. (errata), contemporary fawn calf, smooth spine, red morocco title-piece, gilt snake and profile fleurons, green-bronze boards, gilt Greek roulette borders, guilloche edges, gilt supra-libris, gilt edges (2 corners dulled, small tear at edge of one board). First edition of the translation of the aphorisms of Hippocrates given by the physician François-Christophe Florimond de Mercy (1775-1849), with the Greek text opposite, and preceded by a study on the text. A precious tribute copy offered by the author to Jean-Nicolas Corvisart (1755-1821), physician to Emperor Napoleon I (gilt ex-dono on the upper cover). Corvisart is also the dedicatee of the work. The introduction is printed on laid paper, the text itself on wove paper. Other provenances: unidentified stamp on the title, with monogram "F.B."; old manuscript bookplate of "Louis Charles Thomas, born in Nevers".
