MANGET (Jean-Jacques). Theatrum anatomicum Adjecta sunt B. Eustachii Tabulae antomicae Genevae, Sumpt. Cramer & Perachon, 1717. Three parts in 2 volumes in-folio, [10] f., 434 p. + 2] f., 452 p., [6] f., XVI-34p., [5] f., fr., pl., contemporary marbled fawn basane, 6-ribbed spine, ornamented caissons, havana title and tomaison, double cold fillet on the boards, double gilt fillet on the edges, red edges (flaws including 2 damaged headpieces, dull corners, epid. faded, last f. of t.2 pasted on the endpaper, the previous one re-enamelled at the foot, browning and foxing not serious). First edition of this remarkable compilation which presents the state of anatomical knowledge of the time. Second printing of the title dated 1717 (some copies are dated 1716 and present a strictly identical collation). The illustration consists of a frontispiece portrait of the author engraved by Seiller after B. Gilibaud, 136 copper-engraved plates, some of them folding, and an engraved vignette repeated in the titles, showing a public dissection scene. (Wellcome IV, 43).
