A crossbow-shaped chest of drawers in ochre lacquered wood with black rechampi, decorated in ARTE POVERA (reported) with cut-out and glued paper motifs of peasant scenes, gallant scenes or flowers. It opens with three drawers separated by crosspieces. Rounded molded jambs. Brown veined marble top. Southern work, second half of the 18th century H. 87 cm; W. 134 cm; D. 65 cm Restorations The Arte Povera technique was conceived as a more economical alternative to Far Eastern lacquers and European varnish. It developed in Northern Italy, and particularly in Venice, during the 18th century, before spreading throughout Europe, particularly in southeastern France. This art, known as "Art du découpage" or "paper marquetry", consists in using motifs cut from engravings or various antique papers and bringing them to life on furniture and objects.
