CHINA - JIAQING PERIOD (1796–1820) - Lot 281
CHINA - JIAQING PERIOD (1796–1820) A narrow-necked, bottle-shaped porcelain vase with polychrome enamel decoration in the “Fencai” style of the “Rose Family,” depicting lotus flowers in foliage bearing the symbol of the “Three Abundances” (“sanduo”)—pomegranates, peaches, and finger-shaped lemons—on a white background. The neck, flanked by two handles in the shape of archaic dragons glazed in red iron glaze, is adorned on each side with a “shou” character (longevity) in gold enamel surmounted by a bat. The foot is encircled by a frieze of pink Greek motifs and a frieze of stylized lotus petals. On the reverse of the base, the six-character Jiaqing mark in red “fear” script (zhuanshu) on a turquoise-blue background. (Restorations with metal clasps on the collar; small chip; wear on the gold enamel). H. 35.7 cm The combination of these three fruits forms the symbol known as the “Three Abundances” (sanduo), evoking the wish for many sons, a long life, and blessings.
